Culture Spotlight Featuring Jens Schiweck

Jens Schiweck is a freelance cinematographer from Berlin. He studied media design and started to work on commercials and television as a DP and gaffer. His love for music made him focus on hip hop music videos.

Tell us about your experience at the Hip Hop Film Festival? This is my first time applying for the best music video category at the Hip Hop Film Festival. I'm really excited to see the other submission. I think it's really important to have a Film festival that is about Hip Hop culture. Even in hard times like corona people can connect, learn, and create something new.

Why are stories from the culture important? Stories from the culture are important because it focuses on the people behind the camera. Most of the time the musicians have all the spotlight. It's nice to hear the real stories from the people that create these videos.

What projects are you working on now? I'm currently working on a music video with a Hip Hop artist from berlin that deals with the topic of bullying and the psychological effects on kids and parents. Besides that, we are still in post-production with a music video that I've worked on as a Director of Photography with a Hip Hop artist and a 15 people gospel choir. Why do you think the Harlem film house and Hip Hop Film Festival is important. I think that the Harlem film house and the Hip Hop Film Festival is important because it gives newcomers the opportunity to share their view on important topics in society.
